TIC TIMOR Strengthens Cybersecurity Capabilities
In today’s fast-changing digital world, protecting computer systems and data from cyber threats is more important than ever. Timor-Leste’s Information and Communication Technology Agency (TIC TIMOR), a government agency that manages the Government’s information technology (IT) systems, sees cybersecurity as a key part of its work to protect digital information and keep public services running smoothly.

To strengthen its cybersecurity skills, TIC TIMOR, supported by the Australian Government’s PROSIVU program, sent three of its IT staff to Thailand for specialised training. The team included Thalia Mota, Benigno Da Silva, and Agostinho Pereira.
“Cybersecurity training is very important,” said Thalia. “It helps protect both personal and government data from unauthorised access and keeps our systems safe from threats and cyber-attacks that can affect public services.”
Thalia also said it’s important to invest in people with the right skills. “As the digital world continues to evolve, we need people with the knowledge and technical skills to understand the risks and protect our digital infrastructure,” she added.
The team attended a two-week training program that focused on penetration testing, a method used to find weak spots in computer systems before hackers can exploit them.
“We learned how to find the vulnerability of computer systems and test for possible attacks, so we can better protect our networks,” explained Benigno.
Both Thalia and Benigno, who work as Cybersecurity Assistants at TIC TIMOR, said the training was made possible thanks to PROSIVU’s support.

TIC TIMOR’s Executive Director, Venancio Pinto, also shared his appreciation: “TIC TIMOR greatly appreciates the continuous support of the Australian Government through PROSIVU in improving human resource capacity, especially in the field of ICT. The capacity building program helps strengthen our cybersecurity knowledge, which is essential to fortify national digital infrastructure and ensure the delivery of public ICT services.”
With these new skills, TIC TIMOR is laying the foundation for a safer, more secure digital future for Timor-Leste.
